I want to swap out the original steering system for a newer type column and associated parts. Will be using power steering and floor shift. Could use some solid ideas for possible units. Will have a SBC 350 with T400R trans in it soon and will keep the original front end. What would be the cheapest route to go....salvage yard or store? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I've checked several Boards out and seems this info is pretty scarce...especially for old Plymouths.
Thanks
what are you using for steering? are you going with a power rack or box? if you went with a box i think it'd be easier to hook it up to the original steering gear. i think the gm box is a 906? maybe you could get one out of a monte or something and use the monte column, then everything's gm.
Thanks for the kick-back....I plan on using Chev boxes/pumps if I go with the Chev column and rack and pinion for the front end steering unit. But then again don't know if this is best or whether to go with modern MOPAR steering. Years and makes of donor cars are info I would really like to get. It's much easier to get a leg up by info from those who have experienced the pain.....

I have been eyeballing the column out of a Plymouth lazer, for my P-10. There are a couple of u-pull-it types near me and they have several. It has built in turns, haz, and cruise. It tilts. tilt is in the mount and not the column, it has a small plastic cover for the electronics. It has the coolest OEM Plymouth steering wheel and it has a little tag that says Plymouth on it "little" no chrystler star. You will have to make your own shaft but there about $45 bucks here, and there are two joints in it to start with.
Ck out the " Safety Shifter Kit " from Lime Works Speed Shop", I believe it works with the original Column. For Rack and Pinion, ck out " Butch's Cool Stuff " They have a "Fatman's Power steering conversion kit". It uses a '89-up GM center steering Rack and Pinion from a Cavalier, and Omega. Their might be Buick of that nature, front wheel drive.
Did you have the 350? Could use a Mopar 340 or 360.
