Have you checked HR.com's Classifieds ?

If nothing there check eBay

Any particular reason for wanting a 400?

400sb

I do have a 400 small block I was thinking of selling. I live in Milford Delaware. It has never been bored and is a 2 bolt main. It had bad rings and was running but blowing some oil out of the exhaust. A friend of mine had it in a jeep. He drove the jeep every day and needed to get to work. Being my friend I gave him a good 350 to put in the jeep and he gave me the old 400. I tore down the motor and found the busted rings. The cylinder walls look fine and I chased all of the threads and they look great. I also removed the freeze plugs. It has been on the stand and in a plastic bag for a few weeks now. I still have the pistons, rods and heads. I checked the bore size and it shows to be the stock size. I am not a machinist and I don't know if it has any issues. I had plans to get it to the machine shop when a different friend offered me a 454. I looks to be a 3 hour drive to Delaware from you. I can send you some pictures if you are really interested. I have no idea how much I should ask for it. Maybe we can get some feed back on what its worth and you can make me an offer.

Oops

Hi lapersinger, I rechecked the block and I have made a mistake. When I originally looked up the bore size on the motor I was accidentally looking at the spec for a 400ci cast bowtie block. The “stock” bore for a cast bowtie block is 4.150. My block reads 4.155. When I rechecked the block I got again 4.155 and I looked it up again to be sure of the stock spec and found the stock bore for a NON-bowtie 400ci is 4.125. This means the motor has been bored .030 over the stock spec.

I am very sorry for the misrepresentation. I did not mean to waste your time. Good luck.
