400 dip stick

i am wondering if the dip stick on a 400 is the same as a 350 since the crank has a bigger throw would a 350 dip stick let the crank ride in the oil when full?

Don't really know the answer to your question, but I do know there are several different configurations of SBC dipstick placements, lengths etc. My 383, which I did not build (350 block, 400 crank), has a dipstick that has been calibrated with new etchings for ADD and FULL. We keep a supply of different SBC dipsticks hanging on the wall so we can select the right one when we are mixing and matching SBC components.

Dipsticks measre from the pan rail DOWN so it doesnt matter what SBC you use... But I will tell you most if not all dipsticks are marked different... If its a stock type motor just get any dipstick... If its a race motor measure the crank throw from the pan rail and mark your dipstick yourself...
