i would say that the rebuilding the 406 you have would be a better idea, or actually just freshin it up with new rings, bearings, hone the cylinders, then buy a better set of heads, carb, headers, and cam. and you could easily be above 450, it should be easy to hit 500+

I've driven on the saddle road. Worst road I was ever on except the road to the prison, it's the all time worst. Don't see how you can race on the saddle road, about 20 mph is all I wanted to do. There are some really crummy roads on the big island. Why don't you citizens light a fire under the legislature and get some decent roads built there?

Straightened out curves very nice place there is a real nice 1/4 " mile atrip right near airport in Hilo, Like the 60's

The 4L60E will only work if you buy a aftermarket computer command for it and they aren`t cheap. If you go the 700R4 route some parts are going to need beefed to handle the power output. Then you have to decide if you want to keep torque converter lock up or not as well as other odds and ends.
You`ll need a heavy duty aftermarket tranny cooler to keep it alive as heat is the number 1 killer of automatics.
