Is this 400 sbc ok to run?
I'm lookin at a 400 small blockchevy block for $500 Canadian and was wondering if you guys think it's ok to use.
Its been hot tanked, magnafluxed, and bored .30 over It's a 2-bolt main block which i have heard is more desirable than a 4-bolt main 400 block is this true? He said it's also more desirable because it's 509 casting, whats different about the 509 casting than other castings?, is it higher nickel content? What i'm most worried about is the fact that it had a small crack in the lifter valley but has since been repaired, do you think that this area will be a weak spot in the future? And also is .30 over to much for a 400 block? and does $500 CDN sound like a good deal? Last edited by thesubhumans; 08-17-2006 at 09:49 PM. |

How was the crack repaired? I've seen some cobbled up weld and brazing jobs. The only repair that I've seen hold was the type using pins.
If it has been "welded", I would pass. |

well i havent seen it yet but he said it was professionally welded.
Is .30 over safe for a 400? would i run into overheating problems? |
