400 SBC Stock Forged Rods?
Hi. I have an opportunity to pick up a set of 5.565 stock Chevy rods at a good price which I may use for some future buildup. The seller claims they are forged because they came out of a 1972 Police car that had a 4 bolt main engine. How can I tell if these are in fact forged or is he trying to have me on? Thanks for the help.

All SBC rods are forged, prior to the late 90's, including the short 5.565" 400 rod. They are nothing special, and rarely used even in 400 build-ups anymore even though that is their stock application. They are not worth more than $25 just for them to be rebuild cores if you ask me. Nobody uses them anymore.

I use them.
Previous threads have discussed the merits of longer rods and the decision was there was no real major advantage. Also, there are no clearance problems. |
youll be better off buying a good lightweight aftermarket rod.
new technology is so much better than those old school rods. |
Thanks for the advice.
