What is your idea of a monster? 450hp? 500hp? 600? The definition of a "monster" engine could vary widely from one person to another. Any particular vehicle you are intending to put it in? What kind of ETs are you looking for? Judging by your title "400 sbc striker build", I'm assuming you meant stroker? How big of an engine are you looking to build? Common sizes are 420 and 427/434. Bigger? Depending on what your goals are you may want to think about starting with a Dart SHP or even a Little M block as opposed to a factory block. But before that can be determined you need to be a more clear on exactly what you are looking for. Last question... What's your budget?

As posted if your going to build a monster look into a Dart SHP block at the least as I have never had much faith in OEM 400 blocks. Thin webbing, thin decks that crack, weak main caps because the bolts are so far apart.

I would look into a SHP with a 3.875 stroke and 4.155 bore and with a callies rotator you can use a stock pan and standard base circle cam.

We have been buiding alot of 421's lately or setting guys up to buid there own engines.

If interested let me know by PM

I have ab $5000 to put into a short block. One of my buddies had a 434 that was bad to the bone. I'm putting it in a mustang to grudge race. I wanna go as fast as I can go for the $$$$.

I not very fond of a 4 inch arm in a 9.000 deck block as the rod ratio sucks and you are commited to a stroker pan and small base circle cam.

Go to a Dart Little-M block 3.875 X 4.185 bore and build a 427 SBC.

How's this for a pump gas 400?

553 ft lbs @ 5100 rpm
640 hp @ 6800 rpm

Specs:
400 inch SBC ProComp Block (or Dart SHP)
4.125 x 3.75
11.5 to 1 compression
HYD roller cam .640 lift 254/254 @ .050
AIRWOLF 220e heads
Dr J's ported Hurricane single plane

Should be able to build for a tad over $5K. If you can go a grand more you can use the Little M block and then spray the snot out of it.

Here's more info on the build.
