401 and trans for gremlin

I just bought a 78 jeep cherokee cheiftan. It has a 401 and a quadratrac transmission. I wanted the 401 for my gremlin but as i was working on it, i saw the transmission was rebuilt not long ago. would this transmission work with the 401 in a gremlin as a street/strip car? i know i would have to get a tailshaft. other than that what problems would i come across. what other tranny would be recomended with a jeep 401 built for power.

Is the trans going in a Jeep or a Gremlin?
Do you know if it is a T400 or a 727? Either way, it will have to be completely disassembled to replace the output shaft with a 2wd version.
If it is a T400, there are greater advantages to having that trans from a performance standpoint....

it is comming from a jeep cherokee and going into a gremlin. i was told it is a th400. not sure on how to tell though. the jeep says quadra trac transmission.

How hard is it to swap out the shafts in order to make it a 2wd?

the quadra trac is the transfer case , not the tranny

If the trans is a T400, there will be a vacuum modulator under the cooler lines on the right (passenger) side of the trans. There is also an electrical connector on the drivers side.
If the cooler lines are on the drivers side, you have a torqueflite
