402 GMC motor

I have a 65 chevy pickup with a 350. I have always wanted to install a BBC. I found a '70 GMC 402. I heard it's just an overbored 396. Are there any problems rebulding these motors? Specifically overboring it. Also, has anyone stuffed a BBC into a 65 pickup. Will the frame mounts for the motor fit the BBC?

re: 402 GMC motor

i have a 62 chevy pickup set up for a big block...the only problem i had was the torsion bars are in the way of headers and i had to make motor mounts because the original 283 had that stupid horse shoe mount in the front. i just tossed the body onto a 63-66 frame. i took the motor mounts off an 85 chevy truck (V8) and put some 70 chevelle 454 mounts on top of the 85 truck mounts and the motor bolted right in. you can pick up any of these mounts at autozone (not exactly my favorite store) the have them behind the counter pretty cheap. and as for the 402 i think its a decent BBC i am putting one together now and my dads had one in his chevelle 0.030 (makes a 408) since 1983. never had a problem with it so far. also my truck is from california so it was heat delete from factory. if you have that boxy heater its going to be a tough fit for a BBC. its a huge truck but peaple dont realize the fender wells are huge and the frame rails are 28" apart. so believe it or not a big block is a tight fit, but it is worth it. i wish i had some pictures to show how we did the mounts and stuff

boatanchors, The 85 chevy pickup mounts you refered to, are those pieces between the frame and the motor mount?

It is an overbored 396, but it should be fine for at least another .030", maybe more.

While you're looking for engines, 454s are cheap. If you're going to spend money on a 402 which is just slightly bigger than a small block, why not look into the 454. Its probably no more expensive, but its 50 more cubes, which means more torque for the same HP.
