403 olds in trans am
can a 403 olds in a trans am be made to have horsepower
|

Most definitely! There is plenty of aftermarket support for the low deck Rocket engines. IIRC the forged crank from a mid-60's 330 CID is a drop in and there are still plenty of those floating around.

Yup, forged crank, and I would say anything past about 400-450 hp I'd think about better rods, and anything past 500 hp I'd do a main girdle. The main webs are windowed on those engines and at higher RPMs/cylinder pressures they like to walk around a bit

The Olds 403 is related to the other "small-block" 64-up Olds V8 engines: 260, 307, 330, and 350. They all share a common 3.385 stroke. 403 has a standard deck and a huge bore, cylinders are siamesed together so make sure you've got good flow in your cooling system and radiator. Biggest bore of any small block ever! 400, 425, and 455 are considered "big-blocks" I don't see any reason why you couldn't add a Caddy Seville PFI to it if you wanted fuel injection, just pick slightly larger injectors. |

Hi!
We build a 403 for an customer at the Moment. I take the New KB-Pistons for it, with a Edelbrock Intake and some other. I will tell you how it goes.. |

One of the tricks the stock class drag race Olds guys use is a TON of ignition advance to get more use of cylinder pressures..It's really a treat to see street driven Vista-Cruiser wagons carry the front wheels leaving the line.

It should bolt to the tranny and mounts shouldn't be a problem, but whether it fits the engine compartment, clears steering shaft/linkages, firewall, etc. is another story. Get one complete with brackets as they can be different. |

the guy i bought my 84 buick lesabre from told me he knew a guy that had a lesabre and bolted a 455 right into it with no problems.....but this dude also liked to make up "stories" so i dunno if he was telling the truth or not
