Althou I don't drill the vortec heads for the 400 steam holes I recomend that you do drill the steam holes in your old school heads, for your 400. If you end up using them.

Do you actually have a purpose for 500hp.... other than braging rights?

if you will not be using any tire better than those just build it.
as is as 10-15hp +/- will not make any difference.
it will smoke those tires at will reguardless.

And ya that is a stupid question. Look in the crane online catalog.

These Crane cams are powerfull. but will not work thru restrictive typical camaro exhaust.

You need long tube headers... and some sticky tires to make use of 485 to 500hp.

when that 406 eats the OD transmission replace with a th350.
It will. its just a matter of time.

nice looking camaro
4l80e tranny, from what i'v been reading that trans is pretty awesome and has overdrive. i'v already made the mounting brackets and dry fitted it in the camaro. the camaro is frame tied, lower control arms, tubular lcb's etc. i stripped that car down to nothing and redid everything along with the suspension, rearend etc. underside is mirror finish anyway thanks again fort he info, i have some homework to do

If you really want 500hp and are not just dreaming:

When you find out that your heads are not 500hp capable because the port flow is not high enough.

Consider this.. Those heads are worth more as they are, ( even if not 500hp capable, now as is, then when max ported.

Some one that wants those old heads for what they are, will pay good money for them.
EG collector/restorer,,, superstock racer.

Now you got the money to buy new 500hp capable aftermarket aluminum heads and will make 500+ hp with that crane cam.

If those heads need further work, do not invest more money in them. sell them and buy new heads.
if when you max port them they are worth less $$s. (No longer original, max ported='s thin crack leak prone port walls)

You are going to find about about GM OD transmissions. That motor will $$$$eat it.$$$$
The first time it does that, do yourself a favor and switch to a th-350.
This is not a cruiser motor. OD is near useless with a motor like this.

or just ditch it now ( sell it to someone else with a low power crusier car)
and go with a much stronger th 350 w 10" 3500 stall converter.

The 500hp car you are building is not a cruiser car. Its a street racer. bracket racer

if what you really want is a cruiser car where you can cruise around in OD at less than 2000 rpm
stick the small cam in and forget about 500hp.
