406 chevy

im looking for a little bit of help from more experienced engine builder, on ignition system for a 406 chevy that i have put together, i was told to run the magneto type instead of hei, i have a '78 400 2 bolt main with trick flow heads and hydraulic lifters, looking for about 600hp any suggestions?

BTW, It does not matter what igniton system is. A spark is a spark. The only area you should check is advance curve setup and if it's vacuum or full mechanical advance. Is this for racing or street strip setup?
For a 600 horse 406 you may have little manifold vacuum. I would use full mechincal advance. Set it 15*at idle and by the your at 2800 to 3000 RPM it should be round 36* to 38*. You can use an HEI distributor. My tunnel ram 406 uses an MSD setup with full mechanical advance and works fine.

Is this a rail or drag only vehicle? A mag isn't a street-friendly ignition system, and is used mainly where weight is a big factor and there's no battery on board.

Why would you want to try to make 600 HP w/a 400 SBC w/a hydraulic valve train?

Thank you for the welcome WR, the engine was built for a S10 that was totally stripped, fuel cell mounted in the bed and battery up underneath the rear of the bed. I was not happy with the truck so i decided to put it in my 81 Z28, mostly for strip for midnight madness at gateway dragstrip and occasional cruise nights with the family. I appreciate the suggestions. I went totally off of suggestions from Triple R Performance for a 406, trick flow twisted wedge heads the ROLLER ROCKERS , lunati cam, they machined my block telling me that the 78 block had more nickle in it making it stronger and that it would hold whatever i wanted to put in it. Gene of Genes Transmissions from Quincy, IL is building my 400 transmission and he as well stated that i have a great start to a good setup. Im open for suggestions if i dont have the right set up
