406 sb

I am trying to find out how to tell if i have a internal or external balancer on a 406 Chevy. I have tried to ask some people, but i am getting confused on some of there answers.

You didn't really post any pics.
IIRC All the 400 SBC is externally balanced. Which requires an externally balanced flywheel and the correct Harmonic balancer. Unless someone has built the engine to be a internally balanced engine, That's the only way it could be internally balanced. JMO

If it is an aftermarket balancer, the offset weight could be built into(or bolted into) the back of the center hub. Pretty much only the factory 400 balancer has the scalloped outer ring, nearly all aftermarket units put the weight in the hub.
