406 sbc cooling advice
Ok data first
sbc 406, retro roller, rhs pro action heads iron (steam holes drilled), 3 core aluminum rad, rad is behind a condensor, going in my 84 vette and will end up with about 350 - 400 hp. Crusier occasionally getting into it. Questions: 1 High flow water pump or not. 2 What fan switch thermostat combo do I go with? e.g. stat 170 with fan switch on at 190 off at 180. 3 Do in need to route any coolant lines from the back to front to help flow. Thank all |

When I had my K5 Blazer I used a 180 deg thermostat with adjustable fan switch. The switch was set to turn the fans on at 205 and shut off at 190. Don't be afraid to let the engine get to 200. It's not going to hurt it. This was a supercharged 350 and I used a stock style copper tube 4 core radiator that came stock in the 3/4 and 1 ton pickups from the early 70s. The fans were Flex -a-Lite dual 12". They worked very well.
