And exactly what do you mean your concerns are RPMs ?

i understand that the 400 has a poor rod ratio so going to the shorter throw makes sense but when i run the engine on a symulator it tells me the piston speed is to high and failure is highly probable. im going to use aftermarket rods and pistons to help lower the recipricating mass but is 6500 rpm to high

IMHO no 6500 is not to high someone may say different but i know with my 408 6500 is easy. 5.7 x beam rods flat top pistons dart iron eagle heads and more. I guess something to think about is just how often are you going to be bouncing off 6500 RPMs anyway.

Build your 400. Use 5.7 rods. Have the bottom end balanced by a good shop and you`ll come out alright.

The bigger concern is your transmission choice. There's no sense in running a 700 when a TH350 will do a better job and cost much less.

Unless that 700 is built,it isn't going to live long.

How much street use are you planning? If not alot id go powerglide with some 4:10 or higher gears
