408 bbc nitrous

Hey guys...I just noticed there were several "how much nitrous can I run w/ this setup..." questions on this board lately so I decided to throw my setup in the mix. I've been thinking about a nitrous system for about a year but haven't had the guts to try it out yet. Here's my specs: 68 Chevelle w/ 408ci BBC, 9.2:1 cr, factory forged crank, trw forged pistons, closed chamber heads, solid roller cam 248/254 @0.050 dur cam, 800 holley carb, headers, msd distributor and 6al box. If I ever do run nitrous I will run a nitrous rpm window box (shuts off N20 below and above selected revs), adjustable timing box and the usual n20 switches etc.

My question is what do you guys think would be a good setup and max juice for my engine. Mostly street duty with the occasional drag outing. I'm thinking the Super Powershot which would keep me from getting greedy but I like the Cheater because I could go up to 200hp if I ever got brave enough. Thanks.

big block nitrous

Like killer stated some of the answer will depend on your rods. If they are a set of the old heavy trw pistons they would take 300-400hp shot the rest of the motor would not but those pistons are tough. If you have the 3/8" rod bolts and they are a quality fastener a 200 hp shot will be fine. If they are 7/16" stock or arp bolts prolly 300 hp + would work.

Once again it all depends on how sharp you are with the tune up. Timing ,plugs, fuel play a big part in the nitrous game....... If you don't want to mess with anything else stay at 125/150 hp. Big blocks are a different story then the small blocks they are alot tougher and you can get away with more.....

I new I was forgetting something...they are stock 6.135" rods with I believe milodon 3/8" rod bolts. The guy that had the engine before me polished the beams on the rods and installed the milodon bolts. Personally I would have used ARP as you don't hear about milidon rod bolts much...how do the milodon compare? Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to get it to the track yet with this engine but I'm hoping for 12's. I also have a TH350 w/ 3600 stall, 12-bolt w/4.10 gear and 28x9 MT Drag slicks. Who knows may be fast enough without nitrous. I posted a "what will this run" question almost a year ago and the general concensus was mid 12's so we'll see sometime this spring. Later.

Mildon makes a good quality fastener. They will work fine for waht your going to do.

?? HOPING for 12's?! You'll be lucky if 12's can keep up with that ride!
