409 or 348

Hi, I read somewhere that the chevy 348 engine had its oil dipstick on one side and the 409 had it on the opposite side. Is this true, and would this be a quick way to tell if a 348 was dressed up to look like a 409 etc? thanks for any help, RT.

Believe it or not we still build about 150 custom oil pans for these engines each year. You are correct, the 409 is on the passenger side and the 348 is on the drivers side.
