409 / 348 question

Hi everyone i'm building a 1934 ford 3 window with a chevy 409 and 700r4 trans........been working on this car for three years. The engine (409) is out of a 1964 chevy fire truck .........because of the small heads (933) i can use the stock 348 3 duce manifold. I was told by someone can't remember who i should plug the center hole on the manifold before i set on the intake any ever hear of this.

Thanks in advance for any info you can share.

I`m guessing your referring to blocking off the heat riser passage. This is often done to keep hot exhaust gasses out of the intake, it helps the mixture to stay cooler, plus it helps keep the engine out of ping. Keeping it open gets intake fairly hot and helps prevent throttle blade icing in the winter so it does serve a purpose. I`m not sure if the chokes on your carb are hot air chokes or not or operated by the heat riser passage. If it were mine, I`d block it off.

Do you plan on driving when it's cold outside? Takes em a little while longer to warm up in the winter with the crossover plugged. I noticed your up north, just a thought.

Thanks 6426yy ..........and yep i'm up north but won't be doing any cruzzzzzing in the winter months. I put the 3 duce manifold on this afternoon and plugged the holes with a thin piece sheet metal.

Thanks again
