The stock 41 frame is already boxed and fits the car. That is probably what a 60's gasser would have had under it. If you can't find one or want something else, I would build a 2 x 3 rectangular tubing frame. Quarter elliptical springs in the back with long ladder bars. The front is going to be a little more interesting. The wheels are so far forward on these cars. Early 60's gasser would have probably used really short leaf springs and a tube or i-beam axle. Late sixties would have probably used coil overs and radius arms. I would probably go with the latter. Just my $0.02.

Last week there was a really cool 40 chev on the Pass Time show on Speed
Vision. It's worth a look for some profile ideas. It was very old school. I have an old school chassis under my 30 Plymouth you can vist my journal here to see the project. Last edited by 1930u; 11-08-2009 at 06:50 AM. |

I think the post war coupes had a slight difference in the frame. 41 - 48 two doors and four doors are the same and I think the 41 coupe and maybe the 42 are the same as the sedan frames. My 41 two door sedan has a 41 four door frame under it. You may have to do some slight mods, but it should be either a bolt in or at most some spacers.
A 57-64 Olds/Pont rear is a must for 60's period correct. Try and find the heavy case unless you are going all show and no go. The heavy case has three ribs. Gears and other parts are getting harder to find for these rear ends. A nine inch, while it looks similar, would only fool non-hot roddy types. Parts are a lot easier to come by. |

Looks to be some great pics, when I have a little more time I will have to go through more of them.
