I am a newbie on this so what is the best way to go for a rearend on a 41 chevy 1/2 ton truck? What all has to be moded? Thanks in advance I have no clue.
Depends on what you're doing with the truck. If you're installing a V8 trash the stock rear, its not strong enough plus its geared for pulling stumps.
Early Chevy trucks are a bit narrower than the AD trucks (47-54) so you'll have to look for a rear that is somewhere under 60" mounting surface to mounting surface. Just measure your old one and post the dimensions so we can steer you in the right direction.
Going for the V8, I have already got a front clip in mind (just have to get enough cash to purchase). I will get some measurements on the stock rear end and post. thanks
