Question 410 gears.....too much ??

I have a built 4 bolt 302 for my 51 Ford 2dr streeter, I have and was planning to use a 410:1 Mustang rear, but I want this car to be a daily driver and good cruiser, the motor will put out 300+ HP, can anyone tell me what a good gear ratio I will need to make my ride more driveable.

If you are using an overdrive trans. the 410s will work for cruising, otherwise you will be turning about 3grand at 60mph which won't make for a real comfortable ride. Although it would be lots of fun stop light to stoplight.

I have a 406 making almost 500HP before the NOS and I am hooked up with a 9" rear running 4.11s behind a T350.
On the highway I am running almost 3 grand and get about 12 miles to the gallon. But this is a street/strip car. So I made this chioce knowing right well what I was getting into.

I also have a strong 350 in a heavier car. Also a T350 and a 9". This one is running 3.96. On the highway I am running at just over 2500 when doing 60.
But it is not quite as much fun for light to light or at the track.

That you have a concern for driveability at all means you need to be using a 3.0 to 3.55 gear. The rule is, if you have any doubts, go conservative.

The 8.8 gears are 2.73, 3.08, 3.27, 3.55, 3.73-up. The 3.27's came factory in 96-98 mustang cobras, and we replace them all with 4.10's. Find a cobra shop or owner. All of our clients wanted them back, and sold on ebay. That will be your best source, sans new. The whole diff? Look for that car. The 5.0 and 4.6 sohc cars got 2.73's, almost exclusively. We have plenty of those, hmmmm, wonder why?
