The 413 Mopar

Does anyone have any pros or cons on the 413 Mopar engine? I have absolutely no knowledge or experience with that motor and would appreciate any information that y'all might have.

Thanks,
WR

413/426 wedge/440. All the same basic RB (raised block) motor.

Ya, we have a couple as well as 440s.
Biggest thing about hot rodding one is that only custom ground pistons are available, so you end up with a cost to build that is higher than a 440.

Joe has a Dodge like this in the works with the 413 long rams.
A 440 long ram is on the stand.

awesome engines in my opinion...basically a small bore 440, or more accurately a 440 is basically a bored 413...I'm a fan of them, I like the way the numbers sound as well ...check out www.allpar.com, theres info on just about everything MOPAR there and they have a couple pages with some good info on the 413 and 426 wedge engines...they were pretty stout engines and the high performance Max Wedge versions set alot of records basically if you have easy access to one and would rather have a big block mopar thats not a 440 then go for it otherwise a 440 would be alot easier to find and get some parts for, such as pistons as mentioned above plus a 440 would just have more balls equally built...not that you could honestly say a built 413 would be lacking in that department

An excellent engine. One of my favorites. With the "long ram" intake manifold it produced more torque than the 440! (495 ft/lbs vs. 490 ft/lbs.)

It was said to have propelled the two-ton 300F near 170 mph.
