413 question

hey...quick question, what kind of gas mileage could I expect from a mild 413 in a full-size pickup, 4-speed manual, 4.10 gears?...would it be better or worse then a comparably built 440? engine would be pretty mild, it would probably be an old motorhome engine with nothing more then dual-exhaust, 4 barrel carb, dual plane manifold, and maybe a mild cam... thank you!

It would be a lot better in the pickup, than it was in a motorhome..................

My experience has shown me that gas mileage is a lot more dependent on aerodynamics than cubic inches..................case in point.....I once put a 283 in place of a 350 in a 4x4, thinking I would get better mileage...........not a penny was saved...............a 413 would get similar mileage as a 440 in the same vehicle.

Hi,
I have two full size pickups an F150 w/302, 5speed w/od &
3:73es & a F250 w/351 425hp.5 speed w/od & 4:10es both
are FI, with the 351 changed to mass air
The bone stock F150 302/w. gets 11mpg.
The worked 351/w. F250 gets 16mpg
So after reading this, how do you think we
would be able to answer your question?
Take care,
rich

On a trip to Pa this summer I kept track of my gas mileage very carefully.
I had just put new super sticky autocross tires on my 5spd Neon.
Whenever I was behind the wheel (75-80mph) I could only muster a top number of 38 mpg.
But when my wife drove (55-60) . . . .43mpg !! Not once but twice on two seperate fill ups.

413 vs 440 hmmm I'd say just let your wife drive.
