425 cadillac engine

I hope someone has had this problem......This is a new rebuild engine, I have it in a 1947 Cadillac that I'm building. heres the problem. it will not idle with the choke opened with choke closed about 1/4 way it runs great. this is the no. carb. someone told me it could be in the dist.[factory dist] wou;\ld appreciate any help..........thanks all

I'm not sure if I can help all that much, other than to get some clarification on the details.

If its a 425, then it is from a 77,78 or 79 Cadillac.

Are you using the carbed manifold or the FI manifold?

Are you using the distributor off the stock 425 (should be HEI?) or the one off the '47?

Are you using the stock Q-jet from the 77/78/79?

If the choke must be closed slightly, it usually indicates a vacuum leak or lean condition. My advice would be to look for vacuum leaks, ckecking the throttle shaft for radial play, intake, vacuum lines, ect. As was already asked, is it the Q-jet, or another carb? For nearly any carb, especially Q-jets and holley, remove it and check the screws that attache the throtthe body to the carb body. These have been known to come loose and provide a hard to find vacuum leak.

I was wondering what kind of tranny you have the 425 bolted to i was wondering if it fit a turbo 350 or 400
