428 pontiac engine
I am now at about 10 miles on My new re-build 428 ..I have notice though that It cant take 89 octaine ( middle ) cus it
starts to ping when I press on the gas ... Does that mean that I have to use A higher Octane .? Can someone explain how the Gas matters with The engine ... I have # 16 heads with my 428 ..as well ... Im not ignorent to this but I would like to learn More ..  thnks.... GUys

Your timing may be too advanced. Where are you buying your gas from? Try buying it at somewhere like Exxon or Texaco or somewhere good like that. It helped on my old motor. To find out how gas affects the motor go to the knowledge base and type in octane under the engine section, you should get some good information. ..thats just a few things to think about

I believe that with the 16 heads you might be a little high on compression with that 428.
