429 to 460

i am looking in to building a 460 from core up
what do i need to do to a 429 to make it a 460 if it is all possible

will this one work
(C8VE is the casting number. These are cobra jet heads. They have been sitting outside for a year and need to be rebuilt)
or this on
(I have a 429 ford Big Block the block and every thing that is in it is in good shape, The motor ran good when I removed it from the car. I do have a set of heads for it if needed. The the motor has DIVE stamped on it)

429/460 blocks are the same and have the same size bore. to make a 460 all you need is a 460 crank. the C8 heads you have are not cj heads. cj heads are D0OE-R.

what was the D1 block removed from? if a t-bird it mite be a 460

I have seen the C8's listed as "Thunder Jet" heads, they are not Cobra Jet/Super CJ. They are closed chamber and have 75-76cc chamber, good for making compression, screw-in "bottleneck" studs with no guideplates and self guided rockers, 2.08"/1.65" valves. A decent head to use, put bigger valves in and port, they are far better than any D2 or later smog head.

All you need to turn a 429 into a 460 is the crank and the pistons. Rods and block are the same between the two.

What are your goals? Those C8 heads on a 460 should have no proplem supporting 400 horsepower
