pilot bearings size
Ford changed pilot bearing sizes some where along the line, some big blocks used the same size as FE ( 390) engines.

429-460 before 1978 is internally balanced. You can run a 390 flywheel and clutch with a 351M/400 bellhousing.

Internal balance engines, you can use a 390 flywheel/ clutch and 351M/400 bellhousing. External balance engines you need a 460 flywheel because there is no weighted 390 flywheel, and that makes clearence issues with the 351M/400 bell, because there shorter. You can get some shim plates and make it work.

ok i got yea so the 351m/400 bell housing will be fine on my 71 429 because its Internal balance and like i said i tried that on a 460 but the 460 was an 80 so it was External balance makes sense now i really appreciate it
