Hi all,
I just bought a parts car for $1300. I knew it was a great deal when i bought it, the guy had to move the next day and he was desperate to get rid of it. 69 coupe in good condition with lots of new parts still in box. I got a driveshaft, 351w block and crank, clutch, toploader, c4 with 2 bellhousings, all the original parts, plus all of the parts to convert it to a manual. He also had the pedal assembly sent off to be refurbished, he said that was $500.

Anyways...

Then, i found a 429 air cleaner. The car had 351 in it, and he built a 289 for it, and he had a 302 at some point... but he never mentioned a 429.
It's not in perfect condition, it has some small scratches and surface rust in those scratches. The 429-4v sticker is a little faded, but overall the blue paint is still in pretty good condition.
I assumed since the 429 was so rare, that if it's original it's worth something. Does anybody have any idea what it may be worth, or how i can tell if it's original?

what kind of car? '69 coupe, I can only assume 1969 Mustang.. 429 isn't rare, it is rare for a '69 Mustang as the Boss 429 was the only model offerd with the 429.. however. the Boss 429 engine's air cleaner, would Say 429 Boss on it..

Many of Ford's air cleaners were used between engine lines. If you look under the hood and the shock towers are at the inner fender lip it is a Boss, if not it can't be. It would also have to be a fastback. I imagine he needed a replacement cleaner or had another and it was included. Most likely a T-bird, although they were in many Mustangs, Torinos and Cyclones in the '71-'73 era.

Ya i know the car isn't a Boss. I just assumed he got it off something like you said. I just didn't think about how 429 didn't always mean Boss.

Any idea how much just an aircleaner is worth?

If it is a 71 Mercury Marquis air cleaner can...... maybe $ 20.

do some gooogle parts # digging to find out what it actually is....

correct date code/part # cleaners are hard to find....
and priced $$$ accordingly as this Cougar site example shows....
