434 sbc...what fuel system should i run?

I have built a 434 sbc 4.155x4.00/afr 210 heads/ .592 lift./750 race demon. I am not sure on what fuel system to run. I bought a sumped fuel cell and was recommended by holley's tech line to run their volumax pump flowing @ 160 gph. Is that too much??? I told them that my car is taken to the drags occasionally but is cruised on local streets more. I am going to run 1/2 hardlines from the pump to the carb. but i have a 6AN fuel log or 3/8 line...is that too small and should i get an 8AN fuel log?....I havent dyno'd the motor yet but i expect at least 550 to 600hp...I would really appreciate if someone could suggest what would be the best fuel system to run on my application.
thank you.

You can flow all the fuel that carb can move with one blue pump.I would save my money on the fuel pump, and put it into braided lines.I dont like that aluminum line stuff and I have never seen a well used piece that didnt end up smashed shut or damaged under normal useage.I would run that pump with a #10 line from the sump to a good filter, then a #10 into the pump,or just put the pump and filter together with solid fittings.Run a #8 line to the front of the car to a Holley standard regualtor.Run 2#6 lines out of the regulator to the car.You can run one 1050 dominator off that combo.A 750 will be fine.Good luck.

I agree on the pump. Most people have more than they need. The main problem is to run a fuel line large enough to flow what the pump will flow to the carb. I would suggest using 8AN in place of the 6 you have to make sure it is not a restriction.

re: 434 sbc...what fuel system should i run?

Just my opinion but in my experience a comination of -8AN line and 1/2 " hardline from the tank to the regulator, then -6AN from the regulator to the carb is the hot set up. The -6AN line flows plenty of volume and the small diameter maintains constant pressure to the carb better under varying conditions. It's the set up I run and Ive seen many of my friends with stroked big blocks running well into the tens with this system using a holley black pump flowing 140 GPH with no problems. My buddy Chris has a 406 SBC in a 67 firebird with an all metal body and full interior that runs consistent 11 teens in the 1/4 with this plumbing set up using an Edelbrock Victor mechanical pump. My suggestion would be to keep the -6AN fuel log and run the -8AN in comination with your 1/2 " fuel line from the tank to the regulator and a holley black pump mounted inline near the tank then -6AN from the regulator to your fuel log. That should be more that enough to feed that engine.

re: 434 sbc...what fuel system should i run?

After rereading, I am thinking you have an 8AN in and multiple 6AN out fuel log. If this is the case, you can run one 6AN to each bowl. That is a very popular setup. One 6AN will likely be large enough, but If you are worried about capacity, the single 6AN would the the restriction point. BTW, you also want to make sure and get a good quality FPR like a Mallory 4309 or something similiar. The cheap holley and the like are junk for a serious build and should only be used on the street if at all IMHO. Another thing to keep in mind is that if you run a large pump like that it can and likely will overheat if you do alot of around town driving IF you dont run a return line. Electric pumps are cooled by the fuel so a return line and return regulator like I listed above will keep flow constant through the pump.
