440 bad boy

Well I sold an old qarterpanel of mine to a guy in town tonight and dropped it off at his house. In his garage he has a GTX with a PERFECT body on it, a pair of 906 ported heads and a 440 big block sittign on a stand in front of it almost begging to be dropped in. What a great car, I have got to say a GTX has got to be the best looking car of any muscle car. The 440 was a 66 block with a nice big cam in it. I've seen 440's before, but not that often and ever really got to look at the mill opened up (this one had its heads off). The webs on that thing were HUGE, all nice thick castings all the way around. What an awesome motor. I am building a chevy right now of about the same year (SBC) and I'm not afraid to say that the Mopar stuff that I have seen is of much higher quality. That block is proof positive that mopar didn't spare any expense making good motors and good cars. THe mopar blocks typically have more nickel content in the blocks too.

Sure wish I had a mopar, those things are awesome.

K

You have an unique taste. Just remember the grass always looks better on the other side of the fence.

They make great performance motors. His was backed by a 4 speed tranny and 3.93 sure grip rear. Way nice. HG

Actually I've always been a mopar guy, my first project was all mopar. The only reason i went Chevy (and pontiac for that matter) is that I wanted a hotrod that wasn't going to cost me my soul in parts money to build. Case/point: got my short block 388 all built, ballanced, new hyperu slugs with damper for 700 bucks. Can't beat that with a stick. Mopars are nice, but I don't believe in doing stuff half baked. I'll wait till I have the cash to build one right.
