454 in 65 el camino

I want to put a 454 in my el co and i was wandering if i need to change my front end/springs or anything?

A Big Block Chevrolet 454 weighs a good bit more than a SBC ... so if you want the El Camino to sit at the same ride height .. YES ... big block springs are needed ...

heythanx deuce. I know I should keep this topic on suspension n steering however I have never done a swap like this before and dont want to just slap it in f up and keep taking it out. so I want all info I can get.

I have a 65 el camino with 327 350 tran. 10 bolt rear end can I use the rear end still?

Use it? Absolutely!! The real question is, how long it will last. I'd guess, depending on how healthy the 454 is, that a stock, mediocre TH350 won't last long and once you get the TH350 built to play with the 454, the stock 10 bolt won't last long. The rearend could use an Eaton Posi, gears and axles. Then, you could probably have some fun with all that power.

oh ya, i forget to tell u i got a 400 tranny on the 454 right now, but i was wandering if its worth spending the money getting a posi in the 10 bolt. if it ll hold up or not.
