454 blower questions

Hello. I am new here and i have some questions about putting a blower on my big block 454. it has forged pistons now nice rods and crank. Stock bore with 0.240 thousands dome pistons. Edelbrock performer rpm 6055 heads 2.190 intake 1.880 exhaust. rectangular port. cam is rated for 2,200-6,500 rpm range. 1.7 roller rockers, it is a 4 bolt block. currently running at 10.5-1 compression ratio. I know that is high for street use, pushing around 600hp rite now. Big question is can i put a blower on it and what type should i use, and what other accesseries will i need to make this happen. First timer on the whole blower thing. I've built many big blocks and small blocks but not fresh on the blower bit. any help will be huge thank you. Even part numbers. Thanks. My profile pic is the engine in question here.

you need to lower the CR or run so little boost that the gain in power will be used by the blower drive. 600 hp 454 still has lots of room to grow N.A.

FYI. when I used a victor oval port instead of a performer my car picked up 4/10s. It was a mild street engine.

What Vinnie said, you're way over the limit for a roots type blower, drop that c.r. at least 2 full points to receive the goods a blower provides.

Thank you guys for the help. So i need to lower the C.R. first off. Well that sounds like ripping it out of the car and taring it down again, UGG!! :/ If that's the case? What's the best and easiest way to go about this, changing out the pistons, or heads? Also is it possible to accomplish this by putting on special head gaskets? Thicker? Another question, is the blower going to make my engine run hotter? I've heard they do from some and heard they don't from others. Sorry i hope i'm using this forum rite. First timer here.

454 Blower/Nos?

With the work that this may involve, would i be better off going with Nitrous?
I think what i got out of Vinnies first post is the blower would basically do no good at this point and not make any extra power with the C.R. as high as it is.
Sorry if i sound stupid here i just know nothing about the blowers..

maybe explain what end goal you have in mind? nitrous is great for race cars. On a street car with a big block, when you hit the throttle the tires break loose and then when you hit the NO 2 button you bury the speedo with out adding to the acceleration

454 Blower/Nos?

To be honest with you i am looking to get the absolute most out of both worlds on this one. I want to keep it streetable but with the most power possible. Still drivable but untouchable when i want to play with it or someone. I want unique, one of a kind. Just want it to get the business done with no fight. lol I know i'm asking alot. But i know i can do it.

454 blower help!

If you want to put a blower on a big block the best thing to do is rebuild the motor with flattop or D Cup dished pistons. You are looking at $500 for a set of flattop ICON Forged Pistons. Flattops and your 118cc Edelbrock heads will give you about 8.2 C.R. You will also need forged crank and H-beam rods. You are looking at a tear down and rebuild. Then your looking at another $5500 for the blower and all the accessories. If you have never built a motor with a blower you will have to pay somebody that has the experience. My guess your cost to build a blower motor with your block and heads $9000-$10000. Less if you already have forged crank and rods. If it were me I would add a Dual Stage Single Carb Nitrous System. Even this will probably set you back a grand.

OK,here is your answer.
leave the engine alone ,do a few fine tweeks later.

Get the car as light as possible and get it to hook as hard as possible.Spend time tuning transmission and gearing for your goals.
why does a 250 hp ricer destroy you 0-60?
If you want to launch hard you need gearing/traction/weight transfer. 500 hp can spin any street tire and most cold drag radials.
If you keep your 600 hp and get the car to weigh less than 3000 pounds with you in it,your car will jump. A 4000 pound car with 750 hp will just fry the tires

cdminter59 thanks! so your saying at this point just go with nitrous? I already have all the goodies in the engine all forged and h-beam. I already have over 10,000 in this motor now hate to tare it down. Love the blower idea cause i love the look, sound, and power, but i don't want to sink another 5,000 or more in it just to put one on unless i have too absolutely. So You say Nitrous is the way at this point?

launching.

Vinnie i have massive low end torque now, snap your neck, rip the seats out of the floor torque, at take off. But i need that middle and up torque. while i'm doing 65mph i want it to still pin me to the seat. so i'd say that is my main goal here. have in the middle what i have in the beginning. Is it possible?
