454 engine swap

i plan on doing an engine swap and am concerned about setting the engine in the chasis so that it is centered, level, and plumb. i dont know if a 53 studebaker frame has a rake built into it or not . my last experience with a big block in a 31 ford coupe using a total performace frame was that after i mounted the engine the first time we were not level at the carb. this was caused by the fact that the frame had a 5 degree rake built into it. since my new front end is not totally done i cant level the car on its wheels. can i use frame jacks and level the car and then level the engine or how would i find a way nto be sure the engine is mounted correctly. making the motor and trans mounts are not a problem . i have my headers on and the engine sitting on the rails so i know i can fit it in the frame but what is the proper way of lining everything up. thank you for any help you can give me. joe dipipi stroudsburg, penna

Hey Joe, not too sure about the Stude having a built in rake, but do you know how you want the car to "sit"? I would set the frame on the stands in the position you want it to sit, and make the engine level from there. There are so many different options on how to get your ride hieght adjusted, I don't think you'd have a problem getting it the way you imagined once everything's together. I would put the body on to make sure also, but that's just me and how I would do it.
