Post 454 ID

I have a 454 with Edelbrock RPM kit. Being the new guy on the block, can anyone tell me what that means? The ad stated 454 putting out 550HP. Where can I find the engine ID and who can tell me what all this means? I also have a 400 turbo tranny and positraction rear end. I need to put in a speed cable. Do I just ask for the speedo cable for the 454 engine or do I need to take measurements? Sorry this sounds dumb, but this is brand new stuff for me.

THX for your help...You guys have been great so far.

the edelbrock RPM kit can be from the basic camshaft and lifters to the entire shot including the aluminum heads, the block numbers are on the drivers side belhousing flange, the production numbers are on the block stamped into a ledge in front of the passenger side head, you will need a code book or web site to determine what they are. As for the speedo you may get lucky and be able to use a stock unit, if you can't there are several cable and housing sellers out there look in any good street rodding magazine.
