454 oil capacity

Hi I have a 1984 Chevy K30 dually pickup with a 454 engine. I don't have the original dipstick for this engine, although the one I have in there now does not read full until there are eight quarts of oil in the engine. This doesn't seem right; does anybody know how much oil this engine takes? Thanks in advance.

Stock pan, it would be about 5 qts.......Might be why you are using oil.
