454 problems

bought an older dually with a b&m supercharger on it. long story short...blower is no good and motor has 2 bent push rods.

compression...highest is 130, lowest 115
motor is very clean inside not a spec of anything to be found (kinda scares me).

most of the lifters seem stuck...cannot push in with a pushrod by hand

so here are my questions...

1) can i get new lifters and pushrods and call it a day?
2) it has peanut port heads...can i use an oval port intake (edelbrock)? as it seems no one makes an intake worth a darn for these heads
3) anyone know where to get the blower fixed...is it worth it?

thnx

This may point to several things, but they all will require the engine coming apart to some extent to fix.

If it was just the cylinder heads badly leaking valves/guides), you might do it w/the engine in the truck- but don't count on getting off that easy. You may need rings and a fresh hone (if you're lucky), or a fresh bore, pistons and rings- in which case you might as well bite the bullet and rebuild the whole engine.

That the engine is clean may mean that it was "rebuilt", but improperly honed cylinders aren't sealing, or it may mean nothing of the sort. You'll need to dig deeper to see what's up.

If the lifters are full of oil, you won't be able to depress the plungers- so they're likely not stuck unless they are making a lot of noise while the engine is running.

No. New lifters on an old cam almost NEVER works. If you have bent p-rods, you need to determine the reason why they bent in the first place, then go from there.

Yes. It's not the ideal situation, but it's that, or the cast iron OEM intake.

the compression was done with no intake and a cold motor...are the numbers that bad?

i should really leak the motor down then...that should tell me more.

i had the lifter deal backwards...i have 4 lifters that are very easy to push in and one of them was on the bent pushrod.

will investigate more and get back...thanks

They're not terrible, but right at the limit for variation (over 10%) that I personally like to see. A lot depends on your compression ratio and cam timing.

A blower engine should have a relatively wide (113 plus) LSA, so even w/a fairly rad cam (which really isn't necessary for a forced-induction set-up on the street), the engine should pump a little better, but not knowing your CR (could be as low as 7.5:1, who knows?), maybe not. You can see the dilemma.

I believe that would be a good move, also.

Knowing the cam specs and CR would be good as well.
