454 swap to a 8.1L

i have a 454 in my 95 C3500 dully wanting to know if the swap will be better. I have access to an 8.1L vortex out of a 2007 2500HD truck. the motor has low miles and has a blown head gasket. warranty people just put a new motor in the truck being it was under warranty. Instead of having to get a new computer and wiring harness for my truck to swap it, I was going to go the rout of getting rid of the fuel injection system and turning it over to a carb set up, putting a MSD ignition set up on it. But will my headers off my 454 interchange along with my transmission? I know the 8.1L takes an Allison transmission.

The transmission should bolt up, but i'm not 100% sure. You will need either different headers or the 8.1 manifolds. The 454 heads and the ls engine heads are completely different and your current headers won't work. Running a carb and msd ignition control box is a good idea in my opinion, it simplifies the swap and it easier to work on. Good luck

Also your front mount accessories will not directly bolt on. The 8.1 has no harmonic balancer. Just a serpentine belt pulley pressed onto the crank.

Only carb intakes are HIGH dollar units. No previous BBC intakes or heads will fit 8.1

454 swap to a 8.1L

ya i figured my headers wouldn't work. i get horrible gas mileage with my 454. i wanted to do a swap to hopefully help the truck out. the reason why i wanted to transfer the 8.1 to a carb. is because i want to avoid the wiring harness and the computer. i would probably have a hard time finding them and i know the dealer will want an arm and leg. when i read about the 8.1 i read that the newer 8.1 you cant transfer the motor to a carb. i believe i found a intake but it was $3,000.00. think its going to be a good idea to even do the swap. what will be the positive out come out of it besides a bigger stroke? thanks to all of you for your help
