1. Well it depends on which 455, they were from about 200HP all the way to around 400HP. What year? What vin?

2. A good tranny with a 4.56 gear is going to be a 200-4R or 700-4R.

TH350s and 400s use too much power to turn them, the object is too get the power to the rear wheels. Plus they are 3 speeds unlike the 4 speed 200-4R and 700-4R. With a TH350 and 4.56 gear you would'nt be able to push 90MPH! With a 4 speed you'll be able to push around 130-140MPH. So unless you want hondas passing you I would choise the 200.

TH350s and 400s are a thing of the past. Especially you three speed lovers should be looking into the 200C that can stand 650HP, less than half the force to turn it and can stand more punishment. Can't wait to see how DRW does it!

I disgree with almost everything said here. First of all a 700r4 does not take less power to turn than a 350 it is the same at least if not more. Second with the torque that a 455 makes 4.55:1 gears would be pointless I'd run something taller for sure and changing the gears will be much cheaper than building a good 700 or 200. As the comment about using a 200c instead of a 350 or 400 I'm not even gonna bother to respond too.

Your just in a bad mood today arent ya? :p

Here's the link to the DRW 200C, read up a bit.
http://www.drwtransmission.com/thm_200C.htm

And a 700-4R takes less power to turn than a 350 or 400, would you like some numbers? A 200-4R takes even less power to turn.

Well olds442 if you read that article you will find that there is absolutely no mention of the 700r4 which is essentially a 350 with a 4th gear and its ridiculous to suggest that it would consume more power than a th350. As for the 200c I see no reason in a million years to use it over a th350 even if it is slightly more efficent its benefits are far out weighted by its negatives such as being weaker slightly more expensive to build, much less after market support. The 200r4 is a different sorry as its over drive gives it a big advantage over a 350. All in all how ever for low buck street rods and alot of racing I still give the 350 the nod

yes I would like to see some numbers as to a 700r4 taking less power to turn than a 350

You really need to chill out robin, seriously, I'm not trying to piss ya off here, but we do all have different views on things.

That article was not meant to have any info for any trans other than the 200C in it

As for the 700-4R, you were right as far as it being on the same level as the 350 and I was wrong. I can't seem to find any real world numbers around, but it's about a 35-40HP loss about the same as the 350. Some say the OD makes it eat more power, but I disagree.

The 400 is still a power hog at between the mid 40's to mid 50's in parasitic power loss.

The 200-4R is slightly higher than the 200 at around 25HP, but the 200 is about a 20HP loss.

Yes the 200 is more efficent than the 350 in both gearing and parasitic powerloss. But if you had read the article and maybe give DRW a call I'm sure it would'nt take much to make a mean 200C, remember 200's did'nt ever really die because of too much torque, they die because of a defect with the rear clutches going at about 80,000 miles and the front ones following after. Even the one on my cutlass went at 120,000 miles because the rear clutches failed.

Now just calm down a bit man. Jeezzz.

As far as manuals go BLAH! Who needs em. hehehe.
