I'll really be the devil's advocate, build a 350 DX deisel block based stroker if you want real power . One of the available combinations comes out to 442 cubes also, a nice coincidence You'll never have to worry about strength.

No argument IF you can find one at a decent price. For the rest of us, a 455 is easy.

With a nice body like that, I think a rebuild to factory spec's, a set of headers,intake carb, and a nice dialed in ignition, you'd be a happy camper and, it would be reliable and fun to drive. The cubic in. alone will take care of the grunt, for not a lot of money.

factory specs are about 40 years behind today's technology... I agree with the rest though, a good clean engine build with what you already have will make almost anyone a happy camper. You're looking at possibly doubling your power- that's a significant increase and not too hard to achieve.
