46 Ford concept

Here is an concept drawing of my 46 Ford sedan delivery. I have a black 63 Impala SS and never thought I would have another black car. But, here I go again. This will be black and metallic charcoal gray.

re: 46 concept

Thanks for the comments. This is about the third or fourth color combination I have done but I think I will stick with it. Much easier to do it on the computer than standing in the garage looking at a finished paint job wondering just why in the world you painted the car that color.

It takes about 15 to 20 hours to do one. It depends on the amount of detail that goes into it.

You do great work, do you start with a photo, or do you draw the whole car from scratch? What program do you use, and is there a good forum or site where a guy could get started learning?

I do start with a photo for the basic line drawing and then delete it. I use Illustrator 9.0 on a Mac. I did a quick search on Google for Adobe Illustrator forums and there is plenty of information out there.

Thanks, I'll do a google and see what I can learn. I'm schooled in traditional art, drawing and painting, using actual tools that you hold in your hand (gasp) but it's hard for me to wrap my aging brain around this new fangled computer art. I do have Adobe ps 7 and illustrator, but I don't use Illustrator cause i don't know where to start, I just can't seem to figure out how to draw with it. I recently bought a wacom graphire tablet and it is a help, but I really need education. So much to learn, so little time.

I did it for over 20 years with tools you hold in your hands, including those rapidiograph pens that drip, clog and dry up. Because of changes in the industry I am in about five years ago I had to get into computers. I did it kicking and screaming every step of the way. Now I would not do it any other way. If I can do it at my age, 59, anybody can. Just remember the computer is no different the the tools you hold in your hands, it is just that a tool.

I had to learn this computer thing back in 94, started out in 74 with Rotring pens like you.I stopped in 96 and only got back into it a short while ago when I could afford a decent computer and the Adobe Illustrator CS2. Like you say those pens could clog and drip but a pen and a french curve are easier to dominate than a computer.I use Adobe Illustrator but my impatience will not let me fully explore the system I have.
Your pics are excellent the reality of the paintwork is tops.
