46 Ford Hood question

Buddy of mine has a 46 Ford coupe and is having a bit of a problem with the hood..It appears to me that the hood is about an inch short front to back as it does not quite come out right on the nose and there is a large gap at the rear of the hood.

Could it be that this is the hood from a sedan instead of a coupe? Or is there a fix..it appears the the front clip is straight and installed properly..

Any ideas woud be appreciated..

Sounds like maybe he has a mixture of Ford and Mercury parts? A 46 Merc has a wheel base that is about two inches longer. It uses the "same" body, but the frame is longer right at the firewall. The fenders and hood look like a Ford but are that two or so inches longer.

Hood fix

Brian,
That sounds to me what quite likely happened here..So now it is either add a bit of metal to the rear of the hood and shape it to fit or be on the lookout for a proper hood which may be hard to find..

Next time I see him I will let him know..

Reshaping that hood is probably a Randy Ferguson deal..

Thanks

Ford hood

Don't know where your located geographiclly, but Moores Auto Salvage outside of Rapid City S.D. has 'FAT FORD' body parts. They have a website, they respond to E mail.I E mailed one day, they called me the next day with what I need and the price was reasonable.Picked the stuff up the following week as I was going to Rapid anyway, but they do ship. Also, are you sure you have the right hardware/hinges/ bolts for the Ford hood? Good luck.

Hood

A picture would be nice. If you adjust the hood to fit the cowl the hood will be appear short. The chrome at the top of the grille fills this gap normally.
