460 start up

I recently acquired a 460 Ford engine. It has been totally rebuilt and bored .030 over with aluminum heads. I don't have many spec facts on the cam, but was informed that it has been degreed, valves adjusted, etc. and is ready to be started. Do any of you experienced engine guys have a play by play start up procedure? ie.(prime oil pump, break-in rpms, break-in duration , how many total minutes at higher rpm..etc.) I am anxious to hear this thing....also, is it ok to break-in with open headers or no?
thanks,
James

First thing is to pull valve covers and verify lash or preload.then pour some assembly lube into the rockers if they are stock. Pull #1 plug and verify static timing and firing order. Then pull dist and make a hex drive for the oil pump and spin it with a drill and verify oil out the pushrods and pressure.Reinstall dist and check all plugs for gap. Open headers are ok. Go right to at least 1800 rpms and preferably to 2000 and time and check each pipe for heat. 20 to 30 min with no idle time. If it gets warm, shut down and restart when cool and continue. Make sure 30 wt oil and EOS equivalent in pan.Once broke in, Recheck head torque and retighten intake and pan and pull valve covers and check to make sure its still clean. Drop oil and filter and cut filter open and verify no metal. Put in normal oil and filter and then idle down and set mixture and check vacuum along with initial timing.Done

Verify cam type flat tappet/roller-solid/hydraulic. A roller does not need break-in.

Let me clarify this statement before I cause confusion. A roller cam does not require break-in. A flat tappet cam does require break-in.
