460,What Year?

I have a 78 ford, short bed,4x4 f-150. It has a 460 motor. I,m not quiet sure if that truck came with a 460, and even if it did i would like to know how to tell what year the block is and what year the heads are. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the site.

Get the block casting numbers and go to the knowledge base on this site. Head numbers you aren't going to see from the outside.

I was just wondering, how much power would 70' Lincholn Continental 460 have? I can get the car (1-owner) for $500...the body's shot, but this motor could live on in a Chevette or something....

Not sure without really looking, but the 70 had good compression so should be somewhere around 300 in 1970 rating system. But gosh, the torque !!!!!!!They had good C-6 trans and 9 inch rear ends.

...Yeah, I think I'll be buying that Continental. Would be funny to see a 'Vette with all that stuff crammed in it, you wouldn't need to tub it either, since your rear-tires would be completly out of the body. (Chevette is 5-feet wide, Continental is like 8-feet wide.)
