I thought this was ole hat for you.

I think you can get the g body lower than 3000 lb if you really put all the fiber parts you said.
5 gallon cell. etc.
how much more does a 350 over a glide. 30 lb's?? you can make that up with no dash or, ?

Well it is and isn't.My racing has been with SBC's for most of the time and then the remainder of the time was with aftermarket BBC's which truly isn't the same thing. Also the cars where tube frames and this for the most part is a OEM framed car.
I am getting the feeling the current question is if I can get a Malibu light enough to be effective to use a glide.

I will never say I know it all. That would be foolish on my part. Now I do look forward to the posts on this thread.I am very sure you guys have ideas that I never thought of.Still I intend to help out on the other threads and hey I might ask the forum owners if it's ok to letter the side of the car giving credits to the forum.

Not that I'm whining. If fact I am very proud of what my partnership of 40 some yrs has gotten done in racing and in business. We have grown far beyond our wildness dreams.I have given this acouple of yrs thought and want to venture off on my own car and one that on purpose not as fast.Still involved in the parts part of the business, but thrilled do go back not having to worry about sponsors or our next move and what that will do to or for our business. It's like a breath of fresh air to have fun.

The Malibu can be stripped to about 2600 pounds, before adding back the roll cage.race configured,,,This car is now sounding like a 9.20s car? I thought the idea was to build a cheapo 11.5/12.0 car with easy tuning for both classes

In a sense your right Vinnie. And that isn't where I want to end up.What concerns me is if I can't slow the car up enough ending up in the middle of the next class.I have to prep the car for two classes if the worst case plays out.

At what wt do you think the car has to weigh to be effective to use a glide??.Again no brake,no box,two step, foot brake racing???.

Hell,we never gave that a thought because the bracket we raced in had a wt limit and a glide was just the natural tranny to use.

FWIW more than a few drag racers consider 3200 lbs. the break-off point between a PG and TH400, etc.

If you're bracket racing @ 3000 lbs. I'd use a PG for consistency, if for no other reason. Especially if traction were limited.

I don't how truthful it is,but I have read you can get a Malibu down to 2,700 with a steel headed BBC and a glide.

Pat McCarthy on ClubHotRod has used a lot of SRP pistons (division of JE) in BBC motors that he has built.

Maybe the difference between SRP's and JE's is the wt.Got to look at that. Here is acouple of links on the SRP's:

BIG BLOCK CHEVY - OPEN CHAMBER - BBC HIGH COMPRESSION DOME - JE Pistons
