48 Chevy guys - what width rear?

Just need a quick reference to what width rear to use in a 48 Chevy, I dont have the car here, its coming in the shop in about a month...just looking for parts now for the build.

Back in the old days, before you were born Yes, I am OLD ...
The HOT SETUP for a 48 Chevy rear end was a 55 to 57 Chevrolet rear end ( which is 60 inches wide ... measured from the wheel mounting flange to the wheel mounting flange )

Obliviously, 55 to 57 Chevrolet rears are a little more difficult to find now, so most rodders try to use a 69 or so Mustang or a Camaro/Nova from the late 60's or early 70's.

48 chevy rearend

I used a 57 pontiac ( 308) in a 40, with 40 springs. re drilled the springs and moved tybolt so wheels would be in the center of the wheel well's.
