Don't hold me to this, but I think the intake runners are 161 and the exhausts are 65. They're fairly heavy castings, so shouldn't crack as easily as some other production castings. '71-'72 was the tick-over for unleaded fuel, so the exhaust seats may be induction hardened or they may not be.

Tested a set of the 487x something like 15 years ago before porting them just to know how they were stock, for a reference point. I don't have the exact #'s in front of me, but i remember they were in the high 150's cfm intake and mid 120's on exhaust with 1.94-1.5 valves. They ended up around 220 intake and 180 exhaust after porting with 2.02-1.6 valves.

These were also commonly used on 4-barrel truck engines with 1.94-1.5 valves, which is where mine came from.

Picked this up off the corvetteforum....

"Brzezinski published stock flow numbers for the 492 head that they report is is very similar in flow to the 487's:

Lift In Ex
.1 59 57
.2 120 107
.3 166 125
.4 192 196
.5 196 141
.6 199 141

They get 10% more flow with minor port cleanup work, and ~20% more flow with a little more port work. Randy Brzezinski is a stand up guy (in my excellent business experience with him) so I expect these numbers are valid."

With porting you should be able to make the 410hp # with enough compression in a 350. The ported set I use went on a short-rod 383 at 9-1 compression w/ solid lifter cam in a 3700lb car with 4;10 gears and 2600 stall. It went 12.50's at 110 mph in the 1/4 mile, driven to the track (75 miles away) on pump gas.
