49 Chevy Truck Help! front chassis?? will this work???

We are probably going to get the truck for my dad tomorrow. The question I have is The front chassis I have a 85 Z28 I will give him as a donor. I hear of people using Camaro's and Mustangs chassis for the front of these trucks? Will the sub frame of my 85 Z28 work? what is involved in getting it to work? Any info will be helpfull.

Thank you all in advance

Mark

What would be involved is to sell the Camaro and buy the correct parts. The third gen F-body cars do not have the subframe that the second gen cars used. Typically people use the 1970-1981 Camaro/Firebird subframes as front clips.

Thanks Joe I guess I will start looking at Camaro's other than my free one. Any suggestions of a step by step process for doing this? I'm one of those people that researches everything before I start a project. I have had a hard time finding any links for a step by step.

No !!! that year won't work,Like someone already said. You need the 79-80-81 Camaro.. They change the front end's in 82.. I did several clips last year.. Look in my album there is a few there.. Hope this help's you..

The Nova work's very good in that truck also,,And it's about 1.5'' narrower then the Camaro hub to hub..

Thank you for your reply. I found a 1980 camaro to use for my project. Could you right me a step by step of what I need to do to get this to work? I want to do all the work myself it's for my father and we love fixing up hot rods and building projects but I have always done newer vehicles this is my first classic and I'm pretty pumped about it. I went through about 12 pages of your album but my dads connection is Satellite which is super slow and its taking forever to open anything. I would appreciate any advice you could give me. I have a feeling this one may be a challenge.

Thanks for all you guys help.
Mark

Just remember this is a job.. But can be done.. Always check your measurement's ... Take your Camaro And set the back frame where it's level (BY IT SELF) Once it's level,Tack a piece of angle iron on it's edge front to back on the center of the crossmember... This will give you a place to put your lever on to set it up...You will be removing this when done... What ever you do ... Please don't put the Camaro frame under the truck frame.. If it's the only way you can do it,Well that's you.. I just don't go that route.. I will post some picture of some of the one's I did... One is my 57 Chevy car I did... The other one's, Or of a 58 Chevy truck I did.. You will see I don't weld them under the frame... I'm sure they are ''SUPER STRONG'' that way... But they just don't look right like that.. Sorry that's just my 2 cents..
