496 fit in 1980 trans am?

i currently own a 1980 trans am with a 301 ci and i was planning
to swap in my 496 big block, im wandering if it can fit in there
and what modifications i have to make?

because looking at the engine width i wonder if the heads or valve
covers will touch the power brake booster and thus not fit :o

thanks alot for your help

Just measure the width of the 301 and the BB to see the difference. You can always get a smaller booster. Check front suspension towers too. How about hood clearance?

GEn 7 BBC or a stroked 454?

GEN 7 496 can be had at decent prices complete with PCM's and harnesses.

Of course, a 461 Pontiac would literally bolt right in and make about the same streetable power as the 496 BBC.

What was said about the early Camaros is correct. All the BBC stuff "fits". Be sure to change the springs, as the big block weighs a bunch more than the little 301.

FWIW.
