4L60-E problem

ok i have a 98 s10 4wd i have mild 305 in it and i noticed today that if i manually down shift to second say at a red light and decide to go it seems to slip this is the only time it does it. i have never tinkered with auto trannies so any help you guys can give would be helpful so thanks in advance

4l60e when placed manually in 2nd gear is IN 2nd gear. this was GM method to reduce power in low traction situations ( snow) or ice

but i have done this tons of times and it has never did this before it always wanted to go but now it just seems to slip
