4L60E 1994 no shift, one gear only

1994 or 1995 s-10 pickup 2.2L 4L60E trans only runs in one gear all the time doesnt ever shift

limp mode?

what and how do i check to figure out if its internal problem or electrical problem?

what gear does it appear to be "stuck" in? if it seems to be 3rd gear, then i would check for +12v down at the trans, and the fuse as well. if the fuse is intact and no +12v down at the trans, id suspect a faulty ignition switch.

im really not sure, thats just what the owner says,
ive never driven it yet but soon i will. its sitting out behind the shop and has been for a couple months and i need to get the key from her hmmm. figured i should start getting info regarding this now and get on it soon.,


do you know what wire on the connector is feed 12 volts?


also which would be ground?

This is also a symptom of one or both shift control solenoids being bad. They are very easy to replace once the pan is dropped.

i also just read somewhere that the VSS or another speed snesor or the ABS is possibly a common cause of this problem?

thats correct. the 4L60E will not shift if theres no speed signal. the difference is, with no +12v at the trans, it will have 3rd gear starts, if theres no speed signal, it will start in low gear. now brings the question, is the speedometer working?

good question and good info, i dont know if the spedo works but ill have to find out

so definitley if the speedo doesnt work then then VSS is bad at least, or no power in circuit, or ground hmm...
